How we handle your data

This app is currently in private testing with friends and family, and is not yet publicly available. This policy describes our current data practices for that testing period and will be reviewed and expanded ahead of any public release.

Who we are

Perks & Places is operated by Amelia Perkin, trading as Perks & Places, a sole trader business. There is no separate registered company. For UK data protection purposes, Amelia Perkin is the data controller for the information described below.

Information we collect

  • Account details. Nickname, email address and password. Passwords are managed by our authentication provider, Supabase, and are not visible to us in plain text.
  • Quiz answers. Travel companions, departure location, destination and activity preferences, budget, accommodation preferences, and dates. This information is used to generate destination matches.
  • Saved trips. Any matches saved to a user's profile.
  • Group trip data. Where a user creates or joins a group trip, their answers are stored against that group in order to combine group members' preferences into a single match. See "Group trips and privacy" below.
  • Usage analytics. Only with consent, given through the cookie banner: which key actions happen (starting a quiz, completing a step, saving a trip, and similar), and aggregate heatmaps of where people tap and scroll. We never record what anyone types, watch back a session, or capture the actual content of a page. Handled by PostHog, hosted in the EU.

No payment or billing information is held, as this feature does not yet exist in the app.

Purpose of collection

Information is collected solely to operate the product: to create an account, to generate destination matches, and to allow users to save and revisit them. Data is not sold and is not shared with advertisers.

Group trips and privacy

When a group trip quiz is answered, individual answers remain private. No other member of that group, including the group's creator, can see them. This is enforced at the database level, not only in the application's design, so a fault in the app itself could not expose one member's answers to another. The only information any group member receives is the single combined destination match, generated once all members have answered.

Where data is held

Data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider. Where destination matching is active, quiz answers are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI for the duration of that request only. This data is not used to train any model and is not retained by Anthropic beyond the request. Usage analytics, only where consent has been given, is handled by PostHog and hosted in the EU.

Retention

Data is retained for as long as an account exists. A saved trip or a quiz still in progress can be deleted directly from a user's profile at any time, and the account itself can be deleted entirely from the same page, under Account details. Deleting an account removes the profile, quiz history and saved trips behind it immediately and can't be undone.

Users may request details of the data held about them, request correction of that data, or request its deletion, by contacting us using the details below.
